But thanks to Jason C's post, I will now be aware that Avast may cause conflicts with system software, or otherwise. In any event, I may get rid of the Avast program in the future, but as long as everything is running now, I just may keep it a bit longer, to see if it ultimately is of some help to me at least it allows me to impart some knowledge to others who are unaware of the threats it exposes. Again, I would not trust such scams, anyway but it did freeze my browser temporarily, and others might get sucked into such a scam, if not for the Avast notice that popped up (upper right). Also, Avast did recently find a malware threat/scam (see screenshot from 1-18-2016), which Safari did not pickup. While I would normally find those myself, because I don't even try to open exe and zip files, and most other attachments, from people I don't know other people might, and they might also unknowingly forward some to their less fortunate PC-owner friends. Even tried turning off Avast and Windows Defender completely. But Avast has found a substantial number of emails with malware and trojans in my non-Mac Mail accounts.
